World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10

The National Council for Suicide Prevention is organizing the mental health and suicide prevention communities to spread the word about World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th and the Take 5 to Save Lives campaign. The campaign asks supporters to take five steps: 1) Learn the signs  2) Join the movement  3) Spread the word  4) Support a friend  5) Reach out if you need help. Please visit: www.take5tosavelives.org

  

network180 to hold public hearing about budget

network180 will hold its annual public hearing to gather input from consumers, advocates, and community members on the proposed Fiscal Year 2011 budget. The public hearing will be Monday, September 13, 5:15pm at the network180 administration offices: 790 Fuller Ave. NE, Grand Rapids. A copy of the proposed Fiscal Year 2011 budget is available. Written comments should be received no later than September 10, 2010. Recovery Palooza celebrates five years

Planned by dedicated community volunteers, Recovery Palooza is West Michigan’s largest celebration of recovery. Now in its 5th year, the event is held each September at John Ball Park Picnic Acres in recognition of National Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Month. Live music, family activities, food, and local resources are all part of the celebration. The celebration is Saturday, September 18 at 11:00am. In addition, the 5K Dry Run and Recovery Walk will also be a part of the celebration. Those interested in the corporate challenge for organizations and businesses should call 616.233.8088. Mental health parity group to hold roundtable

Sponsored by the Kent County Mental Health Parity Discussion Group, a roundtable event will be held on September 20 at the Women’s City Club in Grand Rapids. The purpose is to address issues surrounding unequal insurance coverage for individuals with mental health conditions. Kent County Prevention Coalition aims to reduce underage substance use with annual Familiy Day

Did you know, recent statistics have found that having dinner with your kids and family helps reduce the risk of underage substance abuse? As part of a national campaign to increase the awareness of under-age substance use, the Kent County Prevention Coalition is planning their annual Family Day celebration. The celebration will be held September 27 at the John Ball Park Picnic Acres starting at 5:30pm. A free community meal will be provided along with live entertainment, face painting, arts and crafts, and a community resource fair.
